Lodging Management Program State and National Invitational PDF Print E-mail

The National Lodging Management Program Invitational, presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Association Educational Foundation (AH&LEF), attracts top high school students from around the country that are enrolled in the Lodging Management Program.  These students have proven their skill and commitment to the industry through vigorous coursework and on-the-job training.

 

Teams of students representing their state restaurant association's Lodging Management Program compete in the individual state competitions.  First place winning teams in the knowledge bowl, hotel operations, and hospitality project competitions move on to compete at the National Lodging Management Invitational.

 

2011 LMP National Invitational Winners:

Lakeside High School will be traveling April 6-10 to Orlando, Florida to comete in the LMP National Invitational.  The team will be competing at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in the Hotel Operations competition, the Hospitality Project, and the Knowledge Bowl competition.

 

What occurs during the Competition?

 

The State and National Lodging Management Program Invitational is composed of a knowledge bowl competition, the hotel operations competition, and the hospitality project.  Winning teams from each of these events will be awarded scholarships to pursue a career in the lodging industry as well as gold, silver, and bronze medals.

 

Teams participating in the knowledge bowl competition demonstrate their skills and knowledge by competing in at "Jeopardy style" question and answer event.

 

Teams participating in the hotel operations competition demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities in housekeeping and front desk operations.  This competition will allow students to do the following:

  • Complete room inspections...each student will have 10 minutes to evaluate a room utilizing an executive housekeeping checklist
  • Hotel Accounting...teams will demonstrate their skills in accurately posting and calculating accounting information.  Time alloted for this activity is 45 minutes.  This is a paper posting competition not a computer-based program.
  • Analyze case studies in Food and Beverage and Sales and Marketing...students will have 15 minutes to prepare solutions to the case studies and an additional 5 minutes to present case analyses to a team of judges

 

The Lodging Management Program State Invitational is held every year during the spring semester at a host hotel in Little Rock.  Teams compete from all over the state of Arkansas, and industry professionals help to judge the event.  Scholarships and medals are awarded at the Awards Luncheon that concludes the two-day event.
